Indianapolis actor and director Ron Spencer brilliantly portrays Edwin Booth in “Before the Shadows Flee,” an emotional, thought-provoking one-man introspective on the life of one of the greatest performers to ever tread the boards. Featured as a part of a showcase of performers from across the state for the Indiana State Museum’s interpretive programs in May 2010, the original play by Hoosier playwright Rita Kohn depicts actor Edwin Booth and his life-long anguish over his brother, John Wilkes Booth, while also seeking to tell the much broader story of the elder Booth brother’s hopes and dreams as a star of American theater.
